The Sound

Ben came home from work a little early on Friday and we took full advantage of the great weather. We've been dying to explore this giant sand bar that emerges during low-tide. This is the "before" shot as we were heading out. I'm not sure if that stone structure was once a light house or just a basic marker for the entrance to the harbor.

Said structure on the sand bar:

This is the "after" shot. We stayed a little too long and had to walk through water to get back.

Lanie running around on the sand bar:

Ben and Lanie on the sand bar. The "real" beach is off the picture to the right.

Flying a kite:

Lanie taking the reins:

Psyched about life:

Fisherman- This is still on the sand bar. There was a whole row of them way out there.

I love this shot of the fisherman. The sky and water are almost seamlessly blending into each other.

Heading back to the "mainland":

This would be a "watching the sun set" pic but as California Ben pointed out, the sun sets on the wrong side.

Walking her imaginary puppy on the beach and talking to herself:

Chillin':

Something you don't see everyday— an abandoned horseshoe crab shell:

For heavens sake, buy that girl a big black dog! I hate to see her have to walk her imaginary dog!

Horseshoe crab shells: You WILL see them every day in another month or so. I think May is the month when they mate. And when you see a live one on it's back, it's stuck--flip it over. For more info, contact your local my mom.

Great pics!

Stuck on its back- what a terrible fate for horseshoe crabs. You know they must fear that like we fear drowning or natural disasters. I'll be sure to lend a helpful hand to any unfortunate crab. That's neat that there are/will be so many around here. I don't remember seeing them very often up north.

ps: My dad will be rolling through CT sometime late next week during his seasonal migration to the north. I think the plan is to stop in at your parents. Will you be around?

Love the pictures, K. Totally jealous of your location so close to the shore. Can't wait to get down there next week!!

We'll have to take the girls out to the sandbar when you come. It was fun going out there.

Wait, so is Mel going to my parents' too? I don't know what I'm doing but maybe I could come down...

Possibly. She and the girls are coming here Mon-Wed. My dad thinks he is coming Wed., hanging out that afternoon, visiting your parents, and then going to NH that night. (I think he should spend at least one night down this way either at my house or your parents, but he'll probably be stubborn about wanting to get home). So I don't think it'll be much of a visit but I'll let you know one I know more. I'm sure we'll be able to get him down here at least once this summer for a good visit.

UPDATE: Talked to the big guy a little earlier. He is planning on coming Wednesday and stopping into your parents' on the way to NH for a "quick" visit. Mel, Emma, Sophie, Lanie and I will be with him, most likely. I'm going with them to NH for a few days and Ben will meet us up there on Friday night or Sat. morning. So, yeah, this doesn't sound like anything you should go out of your way for. But if you are there, that would be great!
